Sintel

1,860,580 viewers have seen Sintel, the 3D animation produced using Blender 3D 2.5. It is a great movies and really shows what can be produced in Open Source software. The Sintel Open Movie DVD box is worth getting for the addition tutorials and the actual scene in Blender format. This invaluable resource will be used to help develop Monty’s Quest to the next stage.

Enjoy Sintel and we will bring you more up-dates both with the way our film is moving forward and how this amazing 3D software is developing.

Big Buck Bunny

This is an animation that inspired me to start using Blender 3D. I’m a long way off from doing this kind of animation but it’s only a case of practise.

Blender 3D is a great Open Source application, which allows you to build, from scratch, characters and scene in 3D. This is a piece of software I have been learning and teaching to BTEC National Diploma and BTEC HND students over the past few years. Over the coming months as ‘Monty’s Quest’ develops, I will be adding clips and tutorials from the models we build. Hopefully, I will also learn a lot on the way and will share that journey with you.

Invasion

Another 3D animation found on vimeo:

Invasions from Clément Morin on Vimeo.

My purpose for adding these animations is to help to inspire ideas which I hope to use as I develop the 3D graphics for my feature film, “Monty’s Quest”.

Massive Attack – Splitting the Atom

I’ve begun to listen to Massive Attack quite a bit and was taken by this animation on YouTube.

Over the past few years I have been getting my head around the Open Source Software Package – Blender 3D. This is a great 3D modelling and animation program that runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Though it can be hard to figure out at first, the new version is a lot easier to use. However, where as in packages such as 3D Studio Max, Maya, Cinema 4D and Carrara Pro, where many features are simply sliders and a few mouse clicks, in Blender 3D you are starting from scratch and building everything up from the floor.

Not sure what this animation has been produced in but it is inspirational and could influence the work I’m going to be doing on ‘Monty’s Quest’, the no-budget digital feature film I am working on.
